Ruut hails from Finland. She’s been writing, performing, and creating since she was a kid. Ruut is a dog-mom and a mom of two artsy daughters. She writes fiction, designs curriculum, researches mythology, lectures on academic literacy, and innovates people’s creative practice.

In the past decade, Ruut has inspired a love of language in classrooms, through designing curriculum, or leading creative writing workshops. Ruut's own experience as a teen immigrant and English learner led her to master language as a tool for liberation not only for herself, but eventually for her students.

Before becoming an educator, Ruut toured the country as a published songwriter and performer. Her songs were featured in film and TV, and she shared stages with many renowned musicians.

Ruut DeMeo’s unique voice as a writer and seasoned performer inspires others to unlock their own creative potential. A dedicated educator and innovative leader in the realm of literary arts, Ruut firmly believes that the artistic potential in every individual can be nurtured through a creative practice.

Ruut is working on her first full-length novel, a retelling of her country’s epic myth, The Kalevala.
